Dear composters of the Lake House Co-op

I just wanted to thank you for collecting your compostable scraps. Already all of you have increased in the amount we have picked up each week and we are grateful. I want you to know that this practice is great for our community and we are improving the way that we steward what we have by finding ways to reuse our waste. There are so many nutrients in the food scraps that you have given that would have otherwise been thrown into an inferno and turned to ash and maybe produced a small amount of energy. This way these nutrients are staying in our neighborhood and revitalizing the earth that we live on. I really believe that this is part of the reconciling work of Jesus. He restored our relationship with the Father, with each other , and with the earth itself. This is another way that God is calling us to love our community and see his kingdom coming.

This week we collected 40 lbs of compostable waste (yes we are weighing and by the way we need a better scale if anyone has one) which is more this week than we collected over the last couple weeks

We tossed it right into our existing pile of compost which is currently about 120 degrees in the middle

It breaks down fast as we mix it into the pile

And we are able to add the nutrient rich compost to our gardens to produce more produce

The bunnies have enjoyed some of your scraps as well and they give it all back in nice little fertile pellets

As we collect more and have an abundance of compost we are gonna start revitalizing the lot next to us where our neighbors house used to stand. It is now a desert but will be an oasis of fertile soil ripe for guerrilla gardening.

With dreams of growing enough healthy food to share with our neighbors we are have ripped all the concrete out of the front of the house and want to augnment the soil and fill it with a fruit tree orchard that will be available snacks to all who pass by the Lake House

Your 'trash' will feed the hungry and make beautiful our hood.

It is only waste when we waste it

Thank you for your scraps and please keep up the good work.
